BCS460 - A Smart Battery Control System

Here is your own "Sparkey" on hand to tell you how all those electric systrems are operating and most importantly, when will the electric run out!

Our system will show you all those flasey Volts, Amps, kWh, Estimated this or that. We can also give you some nice little charts of that has happened in the past; I always find them ineresting :)

But what is important?

I don't think it's important if your vessel is docked up over winter or in daily use; all battery systems have a finite amount of time time until they are depleted, and hench useless!

We monitor your battery useage, we look at weather reports if your have solar system and take into account your journeys and engine charging. We take as much information into our little boxes, try and work out what is going in and out and give you an estimate of when you will run out of power.

You could have your boat docked up over winter, our system just sips the power and keeps it's eye on everything. In an ideal situation your boat could sit there for months just waiting for you to come back, but how reassuring would it be to have our EMS tell you that everything is good to go whenever you are.

For myself personally I live aboard; in the height of summer the fridge is running flat out, I have routers and various computers running as well as a number of NaviMin systems - I run a NaviMon system on my boat as well as running a 'Development' system for day to day work on the products.

For a 'continuious cruser', ie always moving. then there could be a number of systems that are a large draw and would require consideration to continue operating depending on how much solar is due tomorrow.

Our BCS System can handle and predict both situations to come to relatistic time till the heat death of your power reserves!

Is that it? What else 'ya got?

Multiply battery banks; that's something we haven't talked about. Straight out of the box our BCS system can control and monitor a 20/30/40 battery system. A more realistic control system would be for a 3 to 12 battery system, including a mixture of battery chemistries (aka, Lead, Li-ion, LFP, etc).

Intelligent Charging: All BCS boards come with 4 outputs to control relays. By following recommendations by NaviMon, various charging circuits can be established to keep all on board batteries topped up to thier optimised ready state.

Intelligent detection of equipment. The system will analysise the switching of equipment on and off. Even when the system has no direct knowledge of a fridge, electric grill, etc, it will still recognise the power draws and patterns of use.

What Inputs and Outputs does the EMS unit have

It comes with two thermistors, accurate to from around -20C to 150C. You get to name them, you can use them for any temperature measuring you want; ie measuring battery temperatures

As standard, there are four current measuring connections. These measure current (power) moving back and forth, running your laptop/phone and your solar recharging. These connections would normally be put on battery terminals.

You also get six input signals, normally these could go to each battery in a system. But hey, it's your system so use these inputs as you want.

There are also four outputs, these are designed to drive up to 500ma at VDC for relay operation. These output drivers are fused via PTC thermistors; in the event of a short circuit they will need time to reset.
